Women Safety and Empowerment
Safety, confidence and opportunity should be visible in every community.
October is We The Leaders' Women's Safety and Empowerment month, marking the International Day of the Girl Child on 11 October.
This run is Avinashi's contribution to We The Leaders' October theme. Every registration, every volunteer and every cheering family on the route is a public statement that women's safety, confidence and opportunity belong on the town's main street.
Read about the theme on wetheleader.org ↗Safety
Local risks can be identified through women-led observation and dialogue.
Agency
Women should shape the action, not only be invited to attend it.
Access
Rights, services, mentors and opportunities must be easier to reach.

Run through Avinashi
A temple town takes to the streets
Avinashi is one of the Kongu region's oldest towns — home to the Avinashilingeswarar Temple, whose gopuram has watched over the Nallar plains for more than a thousand years, and a gateway to the Tiruppur knitwear belt where much of India's T-shirts are made.
On 11 October the town's roads belong to its women and children: homemakers, students, mill workers, self-help groups, mothers with their kids — running past the same streets they walk every day, together.
